Fairytale Artist Petronella Grahn
is the creator of Pomenia. She is a children’s book author, illustrator, fabric pattern designer, founder of the children’s clothing brand Tinttu-com, and a mother of six children.
Pomenia is a magical world that was born in my childhood, a realm of fantasy that I have shared and recreated together with my children through bedtime stories, educational adventures, and fairy tale illustrations. With motherhood, I discovered the gifts of a fairy tale artist within me, and through storytelling and visual art, I brought the enchanting world of Pomenia and its fairy tale characters to life. I first introduced my fairy tale world publicly through the Tinttu.com children’s clothing brand (1999–2018). Creating a children’s clothing line was a natural step in showcasing my magical world, as children can play and act as the heroes and storytellers themselves in imaginative clothing.
The right of a child to play freely, creatively, and imaginatively is dear to my heart, and I strive to support it in all my endeavors. The power of fairy tales invites us to play and sets the wings of imagination and creativity soaring. Through fairy tales, children learn new skills through play, but their most important task is to influence emotions and teach the basics of behavior and morality.
I strongly believe that all of us, especially adults, should give ourselves permission to let go and be playful, so that we can find and unleash our creativity and sense of play. Children still know how to amuse themselves with the power of imagination, but often, this ability diminishes with adulthood. However, the skill of amusing oneself holds immeasurable value in real life: the ability to let go, create anew, play, and imagine the impossible as possible.
As an advocate for the values of the fairy tale world and playful childhood, as a fairy tale artist, illustrator, children’s author, founder of Tinttu.com, designer, creator of the Pomenia fairy tale world, and a mother of six, I warmly welcome you to the adventure of Pomenia, where everyone is just the right kind of unique fairy being as they should be.
