Pomenia's Characters

Welcome to the great adventure in the world of magic!

Once upon a time… mother pondered, searching for the story’s first words. Once upon a time, forever and ever…

Forever?

Forever. The magical world of Pomenia. While in the human world it was winter and evening, in Pomenia it was spring and a brand new morning. Mouse ears unfolded as soft as down, and flowers stretched their stems. Creatures awakening from their winter slumber, with traces of sleep still on their fur, yawned until their jaws creaked. And Dreammaster Unonen… Do you remember Dreammaster Unonen?

From “The Great Adventure in the Pomenian Magic World” – a fairy tale book

Thus opens the door to Pomenia, a place full of magic, beauty, and the most splendid companions for adventures.

The inhabitants of the magical world of Pomenia, here you are!

Teo Tangled Hair

A genuine little troll, though also a human child. In the human world, the troll is named Teo, while in Pomenia, he's known as Teo Tangled Hair. Therefore, Teo is a Pomenian who resides in two worlds. The magical spring predicts Teo's arrival in Pomenia and describes the troll as "small, tangled, and persistent," a prediction that proves to be quite accurate. Teo Tangled Hair's friend and adventure companion in Pomenia is the dragon Sisu Swift. Teo sometimes trips over his own tail, gets lost, and stumbles, but his heart is always in the right place. "In the magical world, we adventure as magical beings. Of course, humans are magical beings too, but they forget it. As a troll, you remember it better," explains Dreammaster Unonen, why Teo transforms into a troll.

Sisu Swift

Sisu is a dragon with flying abilities and many other talents he may not even realize he has. Sisu may sometimes mess up, especially when it comes to breathing fire, but otherwise, he is harmless and gentle. To protect his sensitive and special feet from needles and sharp rocks, Sisu wears woolen socks, of which he has large mismatched stocks. Sisu always has woolen socks on his feet. Sisu has a sweet tooth and his movements can be traced by following empty candy wrappers. Sometimes Sisu grumbles and doubts, and although he is fiery, Sisu is the slow-to-warm-up type. It takes Sisu a while to adapt to new situations, but once he gets the hang of it, he can be downright exuberant at times.

Tiitu tangle hair

Tiitu Takkutukka is a little troll in Pomenia when she's off on her adventures, and she's also Teo's little sister! It's not known which of the siblings is more tangled or persistent because sometimes it's Teo who gives in to his sister (almost always and in just the right things), and sometimes it's Tiitu who rarely gives in to anything. Tiitu's best friend is Peppi Butterfly, who, as her name suggests, is much stronger than anyone would initially believe from a butterfly. Together, Tiitu and Peppi make quite the adventure duo, and their stories will be talked about for a long time.

Lilly Dragon maiden

Fairies

In Pomenia, there are about seven fairies, at least last time I counted. Fairies love dancing, dressing up, and good food. Their home in the oak tree on the sunrise side is always in a delightful mess. Fairies are not the quietest bunch and don't clean up until absolutely necessary. Fairies have an important task: from early summer to late summer evenings, they gather magic pollen from the flowers of Flower Meadow and Pretty Meadow with their magic spoon into a small pollen pouch and deliver it to the Magic Castle for Princess Petronella. Magic pollen is needed for winter and all things good. Magic pollen brings about pleasant and happy things! (Sissi Sweet, Hilda Giggler, Hansu Dreamer, Golden Locks, Lila Gentle, Ruttu Raisin, and Fifi Fantastic)

Ruttu Rusina

Rusina is the only fairy who dares to face the Twist. Rusina is self-sufficient and solution-oriented, always doing things her own way, often against the current. Rusina has also been described as the "end-of-the-world fairy." Rusina and the Twist understand each other. They provide each other with intellectual stimulation and strong resistance. Rusina enjoys dancing, like the other fairies, but she believes there should be more than just light fairy days.

Princess Petronella and Golden Snow

Princess Petronella resides in the middle of the Blue Forest in a glass Magic Castle. She receives the magic pollen collected by the fairies and distributes it from the castle to the whole of Pomenia. She sincerely wishes everyone to always be well. The arrival of the princess in the castle is one of the oldest stories in Pomenia. The princess rarely leaves the castle, and when she does, it is often in secret. "Shhh, be quiet. Don't tell anyone that I'm sneaking away right now. Sneakily, I slip away to the Heart Tree and fetch the golden moon from the sky." Petronella's trusted companion is the unicorn Golden Snow. The sun has spun gold into its mane and tail, and its coat radiates sparkle and silver. During the day, Golden Snow grazes in Pretty Meadow and sleeps in the Blue Forest at night.

Mr. Mouse

Mr. Mouse approaches situations by dressing up. Dressing up isn't vanity for Mouse; it's a work attire and a necessity, much like armor for a knight. Even though Mouse spends a lot of time in front of the wardrobe and mirror, he isn't just self-centered. Among the Pomenians, he's the one who truly puts himself on the line for the common good. He accomplishes great feats modestly, almost secretly from others. Through dressing up, Mouse also gains experiences and new knowledge because he's curious and very eager for life. In the attire of a wolf, Mouse can experience what it feels like to be a wolf, and in a fairy dress, he gets to explore life as a fairy. Mr. Mouse is also a daredevil, which greatly pleases Dreammaster Uno.

Koppis Beetle

Koppis is a wannabe-bat, but actually a Beetle. Koppis is sharp-tongued, bossy, and a bit of a busybody, who does what he wants while also making others do what he wants. He challenges himself and takes risks. He loves anything daring. Anything, as long as it's bold and something that hasn't been done before. Despite his tough exterior, Koppis is fair-minded and a communal worker. He helps without being asked and makes sandwiches so that there's enough for everyone. Koppis is also the fixer, sewing master, and Sisu's roommate in Pomenia.

Dreammaster Unonen

Dreammaster Unonen is a sage who moves between the boundaries of dreams and wakefulness, wielding magic with magic pollen. He can visit other worlds and occasionally brings knowledge from the human world to Pomenia. Unonen is a good friend of Mr. Mouse and, as a mischievous humorist, he encourages Mr. Mouse to engage in antics. Unonen is relaxed in nature and a "good mover". He climbs, balances, and dances by placing himself in elegant positions. Unonen wears a hat on his head that interprets his emotions, twisting and turning in the air, sometimes resembling a cat's tail or a curl of smoke.

Mr. Owl

Mr. Owl is a tired and slow-moving bird who rarely, if ever, finds anything interesting. Owl finds talking pointless because no one understands anyone anyway. He doesn't believe in conversation. Owl knows too much, and knowledge, such as literacy and numeracy, is not really useful in Pomenia, so Owl sleeps.... Hoo-hoo.... hoo... always. Hoot! Owl always has something important and significant to say...

Witch Crone Perdita

Sharp-tongued and sharp-minded witch who doesn't ask for permission to do things nor does she promise anything. Perdita casts spells powerfully and uniquely. She never casts the same spell twice, so spellcasting remains interesting, surprising, and fun. Accompanying the witch is a cat with a fear of heights, Meow Meow, and a coffee pot serving excellent coffee named Cluck Cluck. Perdita flies on her broomstick, Prankster, high above everything and is heavenly free!

Dark Wizard Käämä and the Robber Dog

Dark Wizard Käämä Kalevi Kemppinen is worse than his reputation suggests, a gloomy manipulator, muttering to himself, intelligent but socially detached recluse. He wishes everyone lived like him, so the whole world would be suitable for him, and he wouldn't have to retreat into his cave. The colors and sounds of Pomenia annoy Käämä, and he constantly works to destroy even a portion of the joy. Käämä dislikes life because life is impractical and sprawling. He doesn't celebrate and dislikes changes. Almost all Pomenians fear Käämä, especially Käämä's way of living. The Robber Dog lives in Käämä's Skull with Käämä. He is the worst of biters and doesn't obey the command "let go" - not even from Käämä. The Robber Dog has a colorful past. Originally, he was a wolf, and his nose wasn't even pink. With his pink nose, the dog can smell fairies.

Shadow Valdemar

The Shadow is tethered to Käämä by a thin thread, but he stretches wherever he wants. The Shadow whispers, schemes, and spies, sometimes speaking the truth and sometimes lying, delighting in causing chaos. He loves to steer situations awry. The Shadow has a worse nature than Käämä and no conscience whatsoever. The Shadow is mean...boo!

The Catcher Trees, Sap and Knot

The Dark Wizard Käämä Kemppinen's Käämäskull has the gripping horrors known as Sap and Knot. Guarding trees. Catcher trees. They have LONG spiky branch arms, root-like legs (fast), and if you're not careful, they'll SNAP SNAP snap you up... and they won't let go until the Dark Wizard Käämä himself comes to release you (or unless you figure out your own way to escape their cunning grip). They're not the sharpest tools in the shed, even though the tip of the spruce can sometimes be sharp. Regardless. It's not advisable to get too close, and certainly not to the entire Wilderness Forest unless you have something really important to do... or you're a wizard, Robber Dog, or a bat.

Dusk Spiders

In the shadows of Pretty Meadow in Pomenia, Dusk Spiders are excellent at spinning webs and drumming (with all eight legs). Dusk Spiders prefer to emerge only in the twilight. If you want to protect any clothes left out overnight from Dusk Spiders, you can sprinkle pepper on them. Otherwise, Dusk Spiders may gnaw them into flimsiness overnight. Dusk Spiders can get fiery, but they calm down quickly. This has happened at least a million and one times, but it doesn't bother anyone or anything.

Little Fox

Little Fox is a cheerful and curious rascal. He's interested in everything, and if he doesn't understand something, he figures it out. Little Fox always comes up with the most fun activities and the best games. He is a good friend of Nitiäinen and Natiaisen. Little Fox has a big and warm heart.

Nitiäinen and Natiainen

Nitiäinen and Natiainen are brothers. They look so much alike that they sometimes confuse themselves about who is who. The little creatures are easily excited but sometimes get a bit (or a bit more) mixed up in their activities. The boys live in a burrow under a spruce tree at the edge of the forest, by the edge of Flower Meadow.

Trubaduuri Trumpeteer

Trumpeteer is an emotional, sensitive jester, a wistful heart-wrenching troubadour, and a loving jammer. His set is always ready. He doesn't speak because he plays what he feels and what happens. He interprets Pomenia. Trumpeteer accepts everyone as they are and sees everyone as a necessary chord in the whole. With music, he transcends time and places, and is free to cross borders into other worlds, just like Dreammaster Unonen.

Öttiäiset

In Pomenia, there are many kinds of insects. In Pretty Meadow, you can find Leppis, Amppis, Dusk Spiders, and Koppis, the Beetle cousins, or the real Beetles. Insects build shelters, go camping, indulge in treats, love singing, acting, and various activities. Their absolute favorite game to play anywhere is tag! Did you know they have the Great Insect Games held four times a year? I didn't know either... but now I do.
