The World Needs More Stories.

Not because they are an escape from reality, but because stories remind us of what matters in life: imagination, hope, beauty and the feeling of belonging somewhere.

To me, Fairytale Design by Petronella Grahn is not merely a pattern or a brand.

It is a way of seeing the world.

A promise that colour, imagination and stories belong in everyday life. Beauty is not merely decoration, but part of community, identity and memory.

When a Pattern Tells a Story

I have always wanted to create visual worlds that endure and tell a story. Worlds that remind us that colour, form and imagination have the power to change an atmosphere, a moment — sometimes even an entire place.

When a pattern works, it is not just an image.

It awakens a feeling.
A memory.
An experience.

The same idea also guided the design of the Little Fox baby gift given to newborns in Pyhtää.

A Small Story for a New Little Resident of Pyhtää

The birth of a child is one of life’s most meaningful moments.

That is why I believe it should not be marked with a generic gift product — something that could come from anywhere and be meant for anyone.

The gift should mean something.

A small story.
A small piece of a place.

In Pyhtää, that story is Little Fox.

Little Fox is not a new character. He is already part of everyday life in Pyhtää. Over the years, he has travelled from the library mural “The Adventure Begins” to the underpass fairytale world “Small and Happy Things!”, becoming familiar to many children.

Now the same character is also present at the very beginning of life.

In the baby gift.

The World of Little Fox Is Growing

Little Fox is part of the Magical World of Pomenia — a world where stories, characters and landscapes are built layer by layer.

At the moment, the Little Fox story is also being developed internationally. The world of Pomenia and the Little Fox stories are part of a development agreement with BAFTA-winning animation producer Studio Liddell, where the world of Little Fox is being developed into international animated content.

It is wonderful to think that the same little fox who greets new babies in Pyhtää through the baby gift may one day adventure in a much wider world.

Fairytale Design — When a Story Becomes an Object

When I designed the pattern for the baby gift, I thought about fairytale forests, imagination, little adventures and that feeling of living in a world still full of wonders.

I wanted to create a pattern that is not only beautiful, but also carries the idea of belonging to a place and a community.

That is why this is not a disposable gift.

It is meant to be kept.

Not merely used.

As a memory of childhood.
As a memory of where everything began.

How the Baby Gift Was Created

Pyhtää Municipal Manager Terhi Lindholm asked me to design a Fairytale Design by Petronella Grahn pattern for the municipality’s baby package. I also proposed producing it.

I have nearly 30 years of experience in textiles, which made it possible to ensure the best possible quality and cost-effective production. That is fundamental in a design product.

The fabrics were printed in Europe, because Finland currently has no reasonably priced industrial fabric-printing production that would make this scale and quality possible.

The actual production, however, took place in Finland: the fabrics were cut and sewn by hand domestically.

The baby gift includes:

– Little Fox duvet cover
– pillowcase

The package also includes a Fox Family postcard, illustrated by me. It is a small greeting from the world of Pomenia to a new child.

The Municipality of Pyhtää also adds a congratulatory message and greeting from the Municipal Manager, printed by Painotalo Westman.

At the same time, this is the first Fairytale Design by Petronella Grahn baby-gift collection.

A small package carrying a piece of place, story and the world of Pomenia.

And sometimes, that is exactly where a fairytale begins.

A Gift Made to Become a Memory

The baby gift is a small thing — a duvet cover and a pillowcase.

But at their best, small things can carry great stories.

The gift is designed so that it can remain as a keepsake.

A memory of childhood.
A memory of a place.
A memory of the moment when life began.

The Municipality of Pyhtää also has the option to sell the baby-gift packages if it wishes.

A Puff of Magic Fairy Dust

Fairytales, stories, colours and imagination matter.

They remind us that the world can be more beautiful, more courageous and a little more magical.

And sometimes everything begins with a very small moment.

One story.
One child.

And one puff of Magic Fairy Dust.
